Catalina Island is one of Southern California’s best vacation spots, with gorgeous scenery, pristine beaches, plenty of activities, and a slower pace of life. When staying on Santa Catalina a hotel can be hard to find, but there are plenty of luxury accommodations for people to enjoy.
One of the most popular Catalina hotels is the Avalon hotel. There are 15 guest rooms of all sizes at this boutique hotel, from small rooms with gorgeous views, to spacious rooms with king-sized beds. Some rooms also accommodate murphy beds whenever you need room for more than two people. Most rooms have balconies which look out over the Pacific ocean, or into the hotel’s beautiful garden. The garden offers comfortable and secluded seating in their patio after a long day’s excitement, as well as a beautiful koi pond and fire pit to enjoy in the evening. There’s also a luxurious spa room, a fabulous continental breakfast with complimentary teas and gourmet coffees, free Wi-Fi, and custom bath amenities to enjoy.
Another great Catalina hotel is the Hotel Metropole in the center of Avalon. There are many different accommodations to enjoy, from the standard guest rooms with queen or king-sized beds, fireplaces, and balconies, to the 1800 square foot beach house with a full kitchen, living room, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and even a library. The Hotel Metropole also has a hot tub atop it’s roof with panoramic views of the island and the ocean. There’s also a day spa, a great continental breakfast, and the hotel offers packages that come with sightseeing tours of Catalina by helicopter or glass-bottom boat, or even a package to go kayaking offshore.
Another great place to stay is the Banning House Lodge in the small town of Two Harbors, further north along the coast. This century-old bed and breakfast has 12 large and beautiful rooms that are all uniquely decorated. Some of these rooms can house groups of four, and all offer great views of the island, the ocean, or even the mainland. There are also large sun rooms where you can unwind and relax, as well as a large common area where you can meet and strike a conversation with other tourists. Breakfast is served in the dining room, and a courtyard can be found for you to sit in and enjoy. In warmer months, Banning House also hosts social mixers on weekends. Travelers should keep in mind that Banning House Lodge has a two night minimum when staying weekends, and it goes up to three nights on holiday weekends.
